A/Professor Rob Whitbourn

Professor Rob Whitbourn established and is Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories and Director Ambulatory Services at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

He is a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and an internationally recognised leader in Interventional Cardiology, Heart Disease and novel devices. His research career spans over 20 years, including 2 years as Interventional Cardiology and Research Fellow at Stanford University Medical Centre in the US. 

He has been principal investigator on multiple research projects and numerous first-in-man cardiovascular technologies ranging novel coronary bifurcated , drug eluting and bioabsorbable stents, to more recently, pioneering renal sympathetic denervation for resistant systemic hypertension.

He has a substantial publication track record, is an author of more than 100 papers, has given numerous invited lectures at national or international scientific meetings and has been successful with research funding to the value of over $12 million to date.
